Only 9 more days to go until Christmas!
For this 5th day of our Christmas series we decided to ‘show off’ our baking skills, and by show off we mean, make you feel better about your baking abilities because we suck at it. We bought some boxes of cake pop mix and a shit ton of decorations and got to work. The first step was to have ingredients at room temperature which we already failed so we had to quickly microwave some butter before we could get started. Once all the preparations were done we finally got to mixing the batter and pouring them into the cupcake cases that were in the cake pop box. Why on earth would you make cake pops in cupcake cases, I hear you ask? We honestly have no idea, but since we’re no kitchen princesses (Doreth will hate me for saying that cause she does fancy herself a bit of a chef/baker) we decided to not question the authority and just go with whatever Dr. Oetker told us to do. And Doreth wasn’t too mad about anything cause she got to lick the bowl.
Finally, after 16 looong minutes of waiting for the cake pops to bake we could start taking them out of the wrappers and glue the sticks in using melted chocolate. We decided to also keep a couple of them as regular cupcakes to see which ones we liked better. We ended up preferring the cupcakes over the actual cake pops cause they were easier to decorate as well as easier to store seeing as we had no way of keeping the cake pops upright while they dried.
We tried our best to stay in the Christmas theme while decorating our baked goods. But after having made a Santa, Rudolf and Christmas tree it became a bit harder to come up with designs haha. We ended up making a Grinch (yes, Doreth informed me that I forgot to put his nose in but let’s just go with it, okay?), a present and random patterns using Christmas-y colours.
Here are some pictures of the final result. We were originally going to make 30 cake pops but after having spent at least an hour on these we were honestly quite done with the whole thing. So we decided to stop while we were ahead and leave it at these 11. After taking these photos we, obviously, tried some. And let’s just say that if you decide to make these as well you should probably use a bit less icing and decorations because we could literally not taste the cake underneath… Luckily we still had some undecorated ones left to snack on while cleaning up the absolute mess we made in the kitchen.
Do you like to bake during the Christmas season (or at all)? If yes, what is your favourite treat to make?
love,
